Scope:

The scope of work for the project is to assemble, collect, and analyze the right-of-way, traffic, property ownership, drainage, and other data that will be considered in identifying the need for improvement and factors that could affect improvement alternatives.  Through this data collection and analysis, a set of alternatives will be development and an initial screening will be conducted (Phase A). An engineering refinement will be conducted of preferred alternatives from which a detailed evaluation will be conducted to identify a preferred alternative(s) (Phase B).  The findings of this task will be summarized in a combined Phase A/B Report.  Business, property owner and general public input will be sought for this task which is expected to be completed in the Spring of 2024. Following selection of the preferred alternative the development of the design plans will begin with final design expected to be completed by June 2025.  Construction is then expected to begin in Fall 2025 and continue through 2026.

Los Alamos County was awarded $4.25 million in Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding and state match for design, right-of-way acquisition and construction of safety improvements along the section of Trinity Drive (NM502) from Oppenheimer Drive to Knecht Street. Project design and construction is entirely funded with federal and state safety funds.

This project supports two of Council’s 2023 Strategic Goals; Economic Vitality by providing new infrastructure to support Downtown Revitalization, and Quality of Life by improving Mobility options.
