General Information for the Building Safety Division:

The purpose of the Building Safety Division is to administer the building codes and the nuisance codes within the County and enforce quality development improvements and property maintenance standards within the community. The Building Safety Division provides consultation, permits, and inspections to builders, homeowners, and business owners to ensure compliance with applicable building codes. The Building Safety Division works in cooperation with County Fire, Police, Public Works, Planning and Public Utilities regarding the enforcement of the building and nuisance codes.

FEE SCHEDULE(PDF, 319KB) - The fee for a permit is based on Chapter 10 - Article III of the Municipal Code.

Building permits can now be processed online with our Citizen Self Service Portal.

In accordance with the Los Alamos County Code, no building or structure regulated by this Code shall be erected, constructed, enlarged, altered, repaired, moved, improved, removed, converted, or demolished unless a separate permit for each building or structure has been obtained first from the CDD Building Safety Division. Most building permit applications will require a recent survey of the lot or site showing the location of all the utilities. All building permit plans must meet the 2021 International Building Code and the Incorporated County of Los Alamos Code.
