The Los Alamos County Fire and Public Works departments held three public meetings to discuss the site selection process for replacing Fire Station 4. The first was held on Monday, Sept. 23rd, the second on Tuesday, Oct. 15th, and the third on Monday, Oct. 21st. If you missed these meetings you can watch them on the County Project webpage, Fire Station 4 Replacement: Site Selection.
All public feedback, including survey results and email comments, will be presented to the Los Alamos County Council during its November 12th Council meeting, when the Council is expected to finalize the site selection.
The three proposed sites for the new fire station are the following County-owned parcels:
- Site A - Current Fire Station 4, 4401 Diamond (Institutional Zone District)
- Site B - Golf Course Maintenance Yard, entry at 9999 San Ildefonso (Open Space - Active Open Space Zone District)
- Site C – 101 North Mesa (Open Space - Public Park Zone District)
Why do we need a new Fire Station #4?
• The existing facility is dated
• The standards for new fire stations are not being met
• Technology advancements are limited
Fire Chief Troy Hughes presented the Fire Station #4 replacement project to the County Council on June 20, 2023. You can watch the presentation which begins at 2:23:38. In addition, LiDAR scans and drone footage of each site are included on the County's project web page “Fire Station 4 Replacement: Site Selection” at https://losalamosnm.us/FS4-SiteSelection.
How can you provide feedback?
While the Site Selection Survey initially closed on October 7th, we've reopened it until 11:59 p.m. on Wednesday, October 30th.
