September is National Recovery Month and the Los Alamos County Social Services Division and the Los Alamos County Health Council have planned three community events to foster support and connection. Free and open to everyone, the events aim to promote recovery and hope, and to break down the stigma surrounding addiction and mental health. No registration is required, and individuals can arrive at the location on the date and time to participate. The events are as follows:

  1. Paint the Art Tunnel: On Sunday, Sept. 22, at 12 p.m., paint squares in the community art tunnel with messages of recovery, hope, and resilience. Organizers will provide the paint and brushes. The community art tunnel is located within the Canyon Rim Trail underpass, below NM 502 and west of the Los Alamos CO-OP.
  2. Celebrate Recovery, Gathering and Dinner: On Monday, Sept. 23, from 4 to 6 p.m., join the recovery celebration at the SALA Event Center, 2551 Central Ave., Los Alamos. The event will offer an opportunity for guests to network, discover local resources, and connect with others in recovery. El Parasol will cater dinner.
  3. Paint the Rock: Finally, on Saturday, Sept. 28, at 10 a.m., paint messages of recovery and hope on the rock in White Rock, located at the corner of NM4 and Rover Boulevard. This event continues the theme of breaking down stigma and fostering community solidarity. Art supplies will be provided.
