Los Alamos County is accepting applications for three vacancies on the Lodgers' Tax Advisory Board. This board is instrumental in advising the County Manager and Council on the expenditure of funds authorized by NMSA 1978, § 3-38-22, specifically for advertising, publicizing, and promoting tourist attractions and facilities in and around the County.

The Lodgers' Tax, as established by Article II, Section 36-31 of the Los Alamos County Municipal Code, is a tax borne by transient persons using commercial lodging accommodations. The purpose of this tax is to generate revenue for various community benefits, including advertising, improving services, financing new facilities, and attracting conferences, conventions, and meetings of commercial, cultural, educational, and social origins to the County and the state.

The current vacancies require:

  • Two members who are the owner or operator of lodgings subject to the occupancy tax.
  • One member who is an owner or operator of industries located within the county that primarily provide services or products to tourists and are directly involved in tourist-related industries.

People interested who meet these criteria and do not hold public office or are not employed by the County are encouraged to apply. You do not need to be a resident of Los Alamos County to be a member of the board. Online applications will be accepted until the vacancies are filled at https://lacnm.com/LTABApply.

The Lodgers' Tax Advisory Board plays a vital role in enhancing the quality of life in Los Alamos by ensuring that funds generated through the lodgers' tax are used effectively to promote tourism and improve community facilities and services.
