To accommodate the holiday season, New Mexico MainStreet, Los Alamos Commerce & Development (LACDC), and Los Alamos County have extended the deadline by a week for the community to provide feedback on the preliminary recommendations for the East Downtown Los Alamos Metropolitan Redevelopment Area (MRA) initiative. The new deadline is 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 7, 2025.
Residents can visit the East Downtown Los Alamos MRA Feedback webpage on the Los Alamos County website to:
  1. Link to the feedback form;
  2. View the recorded Community Forum presented by Amy Bell and Maren Neldam of New Mexico MainStreet, held last week on December 16;
  3. Learn more about MRAs; and
  4. Link to the MRA – Los Alamos project page, for specific information on this process.
Next steps include considering creating a MRA Agency that will review potential projects and make recommendations to the County Council on whether the County will be a partner in a project.
An MRA Plan, once approved, is designed to encourage development through various incentive tools to revitalize the designated area. For the East Downtown Los Alamos area, the MRA Plan will outline community-supported projects, programs, and policies aimed at enhancing the vibrancy of the downtown, while complying with the New Mexico Metropolitan Redevelopment Code which allows cities and counties to address development challenges through public-private partnerships.
LACDC, New Mexico MainStreet, and the County will update the Los Alamos County Council on the draft plan in January 2025, with a goal to bring a final plan to be considered for approval in February/March 2025.
