Los Alamos County Fair and Rodeo – Roping the Dream

Los Alamos, New Mexico—Join Los Alamos County and other partnering organizations on August 2nd – 4th for exhibits, the Friday Night Concert, the parade, a fair at Ashley Pond Park, the Rodeo at Brewer Arena, and much more!
The County Fair exhibits, organized by the NMSU Co-operative Extension office will kick off the weekend on Friday, August 2nd at the Mesa Public Library, from 3pm – 8pm. Then plan to head over to Ashley Pond Park for the Los Alamos Summer Concert Series, featuring Sim Balkey! The Summer Concert series starts at 6pm with opening acts and runs until 9pm.
Saturday morning of August 3rd is full of activities starting at 9am with the fair at Ashley Pond. Don’t forget to claim your spot on Central Ave. for the Parade, hosted by Los Alamos County, which starts at 10am.
This year’s Grand Marshal is Steve Lynne. Steve just recently retired this July after working for Los Alamos County for the past 28 years. He moved to New Mexico in 1994 and then to Los Alamos in 1996. Steve and his wife Suzanne raised their kids here in Los Alamos. As a resident and a public servant, Steve believed it was his job to enhance the quality of life in Los Alamos. “I knew that Los Alamos was different, but it did not take long for me to recognize just how lucky I was be to living and working here. And now that I am at the end of my career with the County, I can look back and say that all these years I have been Roping the Dream. Los Alamos is amazing!”
The Northern New Mexico Royalty Court competition was held in June of this year and judged by Courtney Gurule and former New Mexico State Fair Queen Tonantzin Candelaria. This year’s Royalty Court is Queen Belita Martinez, Princess Jewel Jaramillo, Sweetheart Lilyanne Montoya, and Jr. Sweetheart Ashleigh Enriquez.
To complete your Saturday, fill the afternoon with the Rodeo starting at 2pm at Brewer Arena on North Mesa and conclude the evening with the Cowboy Dinner and Dance starting at 5pm at the Los Alamos Sheriff’s Posse Lodge, also on North Mesa.
Rodeo Weekend continues on Sunday, August 4th starting at 9am with Stroll the Stables, at the North Mesa Stables. And the Rodeo continues at 1pm - Are you tough enough to wear pink? Well, the cowboys who entered the Rodeo on Sunday are wearing pink, so don’t forget to wear your pink for the day to show your support!
