In a significant step toward addressing housing affordability and accessibility, Los Alamos County has approved a contract with The Housing Trust, a nonprofit organization dedicated to helping individuals and families achieve homeownership through education, counseling, down payment and home rehabilitation assistance, in addition to other innovative housing solutions.

The Housing Trust, based in Santa Fe, brings more than two decades of experience, having developed over 700 homes in 24 neighborhoods while emphasizing quality design, energy efficiency, and permanent affordability. This new partnership will provide Los Alamos residents with essential resources and guidance to make homeownership a reality.

The Trust offers downpayment and home rehabilitation assistance, mortgage reduction assistance, HUD certified counseling, homebuyer training classes, and reverse mortgage counseling targeted to low-, and moderate-income households.

“This partnership reflects our commitment to helping residents access affordable, high-quality housing,” said Dan Osborn, Housing & Special Projects Manager, at Los Alamos County. “By working with The Housing Trust, we’re helping ensure homeownership is within reach for more people in our community.”

Beyond its core services, The Housing Trust also offers HUD-certified counseling, reverse mortgage assistance, and mortgage reduction programs, providing a comprehensive approach to meeting diverse housing needs.
