Los Alamos Public Library is seeking the public’s input for the design and cost estimates phase of the Outdoor Classroom project, to be located between Mesa Public Library and the Betty Ehart Senior Center. The poll opens Friday, Feb. 14, and can be taken online or in person at either library. This project will provide a space for increased and innovative programming from the Library and others in the community.

The Library would like to expand and diversify programs and events by holding more outdoor events. An outdoor classroom is beneficial for many types of events unsuitable for inside the Library, such as small concerts, any craft involving water or bubbles, dancing, and more. In addition, outdoor programming is enhanced by the natural environment surrounding the Mesa Public Library, which fits different learning styles and objectives. The space would also allow for partner programs with the Betty Ehart Senior Center and other organizations.

The project supports the key programs and service delivery issues identified in the 2023 Integrated Master Plan by providing space for more programming for families, youth, middle schoolers, and teens. ADA accessibility will be prioritized for this project.

The Mesa Public Library Proposed Outdoor Classroom Poll will remain open until midnight on Sunday, March 2. For more information, please contact Library Manager Gwen Kalavaza at gwen.kalavaza@lacnm.us.
