The Los Alamos County Transportation Board and Public Works Department will hold a public meeting on Thursday, June 6 at 5:30 p.m.to present the evaluation of existing safety hazards and potential project alternatives to improve conditions on Trinity Drive (NM502) between Oppenheimer and Knecht.

Interested individuals are encouraged to attend in person in Council Chambers at the Municipal Building, 1000 Central Avenue, Los Alamos or remotely via Zoom. The meeting aims to collect public comments on the proposed alternatives, which will assist staff and board members in finalizing a project to present to the County Council. The goal is to begin construction in the fall of 2025.

Background: Following a road safety audit completed in 2016, Los Alamos County was awarded $4.25 million in Federal Highway Safety Improvement Program (HSIP) funding, along with a state match for the design, right-of-way acquisition and construction of safety improvements along this section of Trinity Drive.

Under contract with Public Works, the consulting firm Wilson & Company, Inc. developed a set of possible improvement alternatives. These were based on recommendations from the safety audit, relevant planning documents such as the Downtown Master Plan and Bicycle Transportation Plan, and data collection and analysis. These proposed alternatives will be presented for public review and input at the upcoming meeting.

Public Works officials indicate that for individuals who are unable to attend, the proposed alternatives and the meeting recording will be shared on the Trinity Drive Safety and ADA Improvements project web page. Comments may be emailed to Public Works at lacpw@lacnm.us on or before June 20, 2024.
