The Los Alamos Public Works and Fire departments hosted a public meeting on Oct. 15 at 5:30 p.m. at the Fire Department Administration offices. During the meeting, the project team presented the results of the site selection survey, which closed on Oct. 7, along with collected data on response times, environmental impacts, and a rough cost analysis for the three sites being considered for the replacement of Fire Station 4.
In response to requests from meeting attendees, the project team has reopened the survey, now available until 11:59 p.m. on Oct. 30.
Officials are encouraging residents who have not yet participated to visit the County project page at https://lacnm.com/FS4 for project details and a link to complete the survey to provide feedback on the three sites:
  1. Site A: The existing fire station location at 4401 Diamond Drive (Institutional Zone District)
  2. Site B: The golf course maintenance yard at 9999 San Ildefonso Road (Open Space - Active Open Space Zone District)
  3. Site C: 101 North Mesa Road (Open Space - Public Park Zone District)
Residents can also access recordings from the Sept. 23 and Oct. 15 meetings, view the PowerPoint presentations, and review the responses from the survey that closed on Oct. 7, which showed that 122 out of 134 respondents overwhelmingly favored Site A, the existing fire station location.

The next public meeting is scheduled for 5:30 p.m. on Monday, Oct. 21, at the Fire Administration offices, 999 Central Ave., Third Floor, Los Alamos.

The County project team will present all public feedback, including survey results and comments, to the Los Alamos County Council during its meeting on Nov. 12, when the Council is expected to finalize the site selection.
