County government offices to close for Christmas and New Year’s days

In observance of Christmas and New Year’s Days, some Los Alamos County government offices and services will close on Wednesday, Dec. 25, 2024, and Wednesday, Jan. 1, 2025. The County’s administrative offices, facilities, Atomic City Transit fixed bus routes, and the Environmental Services division are closed both Wednesdays. Some neighborhood streetlights turned off for farolito viewing

The Los Alamos County Traffic & Streets Division will be turning off the power to some neighborhood streetlights to enhance the viewing of holiday farolitos. The streetlights will be turned off starting Friday, Dec. 20 and will be restored on Thursday, Dec. 26.

Community invited to attend LAFD Promotion Ceremony Dec. 14

Farolito Sand Available Beginning Nov. 27

- Deer Trap Trailhead on Barranca Mesa

Oppenheimer Festival & community favorites honored at TopHAT Awards

Los Alamos County is thrilled to announce the “Oppenheimer Festival,” held annually at SALA Event Center, was named the 2024 New Mexico Top HAT (Hospitality and Tourism) Award winner for Best New Experience on November 20. In addition, Pajarito Mountain Ski Area and the “Los Alamos County Summer Concert Series” were also honored as finalists.

County to Participate in Operation Green Light in Support of Veterans

Los Alamos County announced its plans to illuminate the County Municipal Building and the Justice Center with green lights from November 4-11 as part of Operation Green Light for Veterans, a nationwide effort uniting counties across the nation to support military veterans. The initiative raises awareness around the unique challenges faced by many veterans and their families.

DPU receives national customer satisfaction award

The Los Alamos Department of Public Utilities (DPU) was presented a Public Power Customer Satisfaction Award for providing excellent service to Los Alamos County. The recognition came from the American Public Power Association (APPA) at its annual conference in Louisville, Kentucky.
