Minimum Qualifications:
•One-year experience as a custodian.  
•Must possess or have ability to obtain within sixty days of employment and must maintain a valid New Mexico Class D driver’s license.
•Must successfully complete pre-employment physical exam prior to commencing work.
•May be required to successfully complete a thorough background investigation, including FBI fingerprint check.

Preferred Qualifications:
•High School Diploma or GED.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
•Knowledge of occupational hazards and applicable safety practices.
•Knowledge of cleaning equipment and chemicals.
•Knowledge of characteristics of and protocols related to handling of hazardous chemicals.
•Skill in operating various word-processing and spreadsheets software programs in a Windows environment.
•Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.
•Ability to safely use cleaning products and safely operate cleaning equipment, including vacuums, and other related equipment.
•Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community.
•Ability to understand and follow oral and written instruction.
•Ability to learn the methods of cleaning and caring for buildings and equipment.
•Ability to track time in payroll system.
•Ability to work as a team member in a structured working environment.
•Ability to work with timeliness and thoroughness.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
•Dusts and mops floors. 
•Vacuums carpets. 
•Performs routine maintenance to custodial equipment and supplies. 
•Empties trash receptacles and bags trash for proper disposal. 
•Changes light bulbs as directed. 
•Dusts books, shelves, blinds, furniture and equipment.
•Locks doors after cleaning areas. 
•Ensures proper care in the use and maintenance of equipment and supplies; promotes continuous improvement of workplace safety and environmental practices. 
•Cleans grounds and sidewalk around facilities.  May oversee and/or assist with snow removal activities. 
•Organizes meeting rooms, set-ups and takes down for meetings and events, opens and secures buildings.  
•Washes, cleans, and sanitizes restroom surfaces, restocks paper and soap supplies, and fixtures and polishes furniture; washes windows and sweeps, scrubs, mops and waxes floors; washes walls and woodwork. 
•Performs building monitor duties for monitored events.
•Contributes to a team effort and accomplishes related results as required.
•Performs other duties as required.

Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to walk and stand; have manual and finger dexterity; stoop, and talk or hear.  The employee is frequently required to climb stairs.  The employee is occasionally required to crawl, reach above shoulder level, crouch, kneel, balance, push/pull, and carry.  The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds with the assistance of equipment or another person.

Work Environment:
Work is performed in an indoor setting with a moderate noise level and in outside environments with moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.  Work environment involves some exposure to hazards or physical risks, and requires following basic safety precautions.  Work may be stressful at times. Travel, on-site response to emergencies, evening, and holiday work may be required.  Will be assigned to a rotating weekend schedule.
