Public Works Design and Construction Standards

Revised September 2008, This standard presents criteria for use in the design and construction of municipal Public Works Infrastructure in the County of Los Alamos, New Mexico. Material presented is intended for the use of qualified design professionals familiar with municipal infrastructure. The County has adopted NMDOT Design Standards and Serials for the construction of roads and bridges.

Criteria for building construction and design are provided in the Los Alamos County Code - Title 10. Criteria for fire protection and Life Safety are provided in the Los Alamos County Code - Title 22.

Clarifications of this document shall be made by the County Engineer of Los Alamos County. Any subject/situation not addressed in this document or other County Standards shall be revised and approved by the County Engineer.

Outdoor Lighting Standards

Outdoor Lighting 16-Article IV, DIV 6.  Section 16-45 Applicability states that all new development shall meet the requirements of this section and existing outdoor lighting that does not meet the provisions of this section shall be considered legal nonconforming for ten years from the adoption date of this chapter. After ten years, or unless otherwise specified within this chapter, all outdoor lighting fixtures that do not conform to the requirements of this chapter must be replaced with conforming fixtures, or existing fixtures must be retrofitted to comply. This requirement shall not apply to residential zone districts.

Sustainable Education for Advanced Buildings - Energy Conservation Code Training for Professionals

On May 2, 2024, Los Alamos County hosted a training sponsored by Northern New Mexico College and funded by the New Mexico Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Department. In the future, the department intends to hold additional trainings for professionals.
